This video illustrates how fast the landscape can change within 10 miles. We start at the flatlands of Central Texas Cotton Country as we enter the Balcones Escarpment, and the Texas Hill Country.
The road is FM1431 (Farm to Market) which used to be a lazy 2-lane road before all of the crazy Californians moved to Texas. This road leads west to Marble Falls and far beyond – but this portion of the road is my favorite because it always gives me a happy feeling when I’m on it – either coming or going. It’s also can be a dangerous road with whitetail deer crossing in the middle of the night and I’ve known of a few people who have hit wild animals and didn’t walk away from the crash. But, with all of that said, I believe this is a beautiful drive. And it deserves mention in my book of drives as shared on YouTube.
When traveling, we all have favorite drives. This is one of mine. It always reminds me of good times and a genuine feeling that I’m always on vacation even when I’m not. What’s your favorite drive?
